The PD type ( powercentre ) were supplied in two versions, 4 LED’s ( see illustration ) and early 2 LED’s. The 4 LED type was supplied for twin or triple ( fig 1 ) battery banks. These units have a number of functions :-
battery status, indicated via the LED’s, see data sheet for details.
split charging, the split charge relay module is controlled by the electronics in the display, and are interfaced with the display LED’s.
mains battery charger, the yellow cased Powercentre charger interfaces with the electronics within the module, this allows the service battery to be charged, before placing the engine batteries on charge. This allows full charger output for domestic use, only putting the engines batteries on charge when surplus power is available, avoiding excessive gassing while the service battery bank is first charged.
power lockout, the electronics monitors the service battery
Voltage for a low pre-set voltage. If this is reached, due to say
the fridge left running, the lock-out relay will be energised to
isolate the fridge, thus maintaining a power supply
for nav equipment and VHF. Once the engine is started,
and the battery is on charge, power to the fridge is reconnected.
The D type (display ) fig 2 do not have a control function as P type units, providing only a display. They were equipped with 1 or more bar-graphs, and normally a digital LED display. The largest module had 2 digital meters and 9 bar-graphs.
They pick up voltages and amp reading from the bar-graph driver, connections are via auto-motive style multi pin connectors
The final design in this range was the D413,
this provides :-
voltage reading from two battery banks, service battery normally in view, engine battery bank obtained by a press to test switch. This display has a back light for night use, and is on all the time.
amps, indicating net amps into or out of the service battery, indicated by red or green LED’s, yellow indicates zero amps.
fresh water tank level, pressing the water test switch will indicate the tank level, as a solid bar, on the positive ammeter scale ( fig 4 ).
waste tank, when the waste tank is full a red LED will be illuminated.
These were supplied as stand-alone systems, or as part of a switch / power distribution / charging system. We can normally carry out repairs, or supply a replacement unit for the displays that were made. Check on the display id page to find the part number of your display, the service status of all display modules are shown along side the appropriate display.
